Midjourney for social media marketing.

There are a number of successful Instagram and TikTok accounts who mainly post Midjourney generated imagery set to atmospheric video and post processing effects. These pages receives thousands of likes and millions of views.

Often, users like this are accused of “prompt gatekeeping.” I experimented with Midjourney to achieve similar results to arcal101, saysh0w, etc. The secret to this particular look is to reference certain video games and platforms from the turn of the century. I found Silent Hill and gamecube to be the most useful references.

Below are my attempts at recreating the liminal y2k 3d render look. Rendered by Midjourney, prompted by me. While I achieved this look with my own experimentation, it is probably easiest to paste images into GPT or Claude and simply ask for prompts to recreate the look. You could ask for 5 different prompts that each attempt to create the look with a different method.

The social media engagement potential of Midjourney driven aesthetic content is high, especially for targeting increasingly niche demographics. Midjourney can create americana which appeals to Boomers and Gen X, Y2K nostalgia for Millenials, and lo-fi surrealism for Gen Z.
